2014 Young Scholar Award Recipient

Julia Mogus is a dedicated child advocate for Aboriginal youth and literacy, grassroots activist, environmentalist, local volunteer, and philanthropist. Today at the age of 17, her cumulative volunteer efforts exceed more than 3,000 hours of volunteer service since the age of 10.

Growing up in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, without television, Julia is on a mission to bring the gift of reading to children and youth in her country's northern First Nation communities and to children around the world. In 2012, Julia co-founded Books with No Bounds, and to date, have shipped over 72,000 books to 10,000 children around the world. Through her work with Books With No Bounds, Julia continues the advancement of education and supports a national awareness campaign for Aboriginal cultural sensitivity and appreciation. Julia has participated in humanitarian trips to Kenya, Africa and to remote fly-in only native reserves in northern Ontario. She has spoken to audiences of all ages in Canada and the United States and currently serves on several executive committees for many charitable organizations. As a former Skate Canada competitive Novice Level figure skater, Julia enjoys spending her free time skating, playing soccer and participating in model UN conferences. Julia plans on studying International Relations and Human Rights at University and is committed to continuing her work to provide the tools necessary for education success.

 


2014 Young Scholar Award Ceremony

The Young Scholar Award was presented to the 2014 recipient, Julia Mogus, at the Cambridge Youth Awards ceremony in honours of the National Youth Arts Week - a week dedicated to celebrating the talents and expressions of the youth.
